After numerous attempts, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has successfully re-streamed the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), marking the start of crude oil processing and the delivery of petroleum products to the market.
The company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, announced on Tuesday that trucks have begun loading Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Household Kerosene (HHK), among other petroleum products, from the facility.
During a ceremony to mark the commencement of loading activities at the refinery in Port Harcourt, NNPC Group CEO, Mele Kyari, described the development as a monumental achievement for Nigeria. He noted that the re-streaming of the refinery heralds a new era of energy independence and economic growth for the country.
Kyari expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the refinery rehabilitation project and his commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s energy security. He also acknowledged the NNPC Ltd Board, staff, and contractors for their dedication in overcoming challenges to deliver the refinery’s restoration.
Addressing Nigerians, Kyari thanked them for their patience and reassured them of NNPC’s commitment to reviving the country’s other refineries.
The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, commended NNPC on achieving this milestone and pledged the agency’s continued support for the rehabilitation of other refineries.
The PHRC rehabilitation project, designed to restore the refinery to full functionality, has achieved over 16 million man-hours without any Loss Time Injuries (LTI), underscoring its adherence to safety and efficiency.
