President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to fostering collaboration in vital areas including food security, energy, solid minerals, education, and defense.
This pledge was made during a significant meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palais des L’Élysée.
Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s progress in achieving stability, stating, “We are working on stability and we are getting closer and closer, but we can do better and better.”
At a joint press briefing, the Nigerian leader underscored the immense, yet underutilized potential of Nigeria’s agricultural sector, calling on international investors to take advantage of the country’s hospitable investment environment.
“The French-Nigeria Business Forum is already making strides, but there’s more we can accomplish regarding food security. We cannot afford to invest solely in others’ countries,” Tinubu remarked.
He highlighted the robust nature of Nigeria’s financial sector as a key enabler for foreign investment, particularly from French businesses, aimed at enhancing food security initiatives.
“Nigeria’s financial sector is thriving and evolving. We are laying the groundwork for French nationals to invest in our economy, especially in food security,” he stated.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of initiating a comprehensive food security program to attract private sector investment into Nigeria.
He pointed out that the Nigerian economy is being strategically repositioned to welcome more foreign direct investment, which will positively influence the livelihoods of its citizens.
“I assure you, Nigeria is open for business. Additionally, we have a dynamic and educated youth population eager to be trained in various fields of entrepreneurship and development,” he added.
The president urged the French government to provide training programs aimed at developing Nigeria’s youth.
“Moreover, we should work together to mitigate the risks associated with opportunities in the solid minerals sector. We have significant potential and have agreed to deepen our collaboration,” he noted.
Tinubu acknowledged that Nigeria, like many African nations, is focused on addressing food security challenges. “A nation facing hunger will not prioritize environmental issues, and in the 21st century, no child should go to bed hungry,” he asserted to President Macron and his delegation.
He emphasized the importance of education, stating that providing African children with essential nutrition, such as a glass of milk at school, can significantly improve their attendance and learning.
“Educating our children is crucial for our collective future,” President Tinubu stated.
On the topic of security, he highlighted the necessity of a united front against terrorism. “Nigeria is committed to progress and is ready to collaborate with France on security operations aimed at addressing migration challenges,” he concluded.
