Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering partnerships with industry leaders, private sectors, and artisans to create employment opportunities for graduates of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB).
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of over 2,000 students from the five Government Technical Colleges held at De-Blue Roof, Agidingbi, Ikeja, the governor emphasized the vital role of technical and vocational education in advancing Lagos State’s development.
He highlighted the alignment of these achievements with the Education and Technology pillar of his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda, which seeks to build a prosperous, inclusive, and self-reliant society. Sanwo-Olu urged the graduates to use their acquired skills to excel globally and contribute to societal transformation.
“Today, we celebrate not just the academic and technical achievements of these graduates but also their potential to drive Lagos State’s economic growth,” Sanwo-Olu said. He noted that technical education equips young people with practical skills for industries such as engineering, construction, ICT, business, and creative arts, ensuring they are not only employable but also capable of becoming job creators.
The governor also stressed the importance of government-industry partnerships in aligning the curriculum with industry standards to prepare students for global competitiveness. He congratulated the graduates and commended the efforts of LASTVEB’s management, parents, and other stakeholders in shaping a future where technical education is central to sustainable development.
commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, encouraged the graduates to strive for excellence, stressing the role of technical education in stimulating economic growth.
He acknowledged Governor Sanwo-Olu’s initiatives through ministries such as Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation, which provide leverage for graduates to excel in their chosen careers.
LASTVEB Executive Secretary, Moronke Azeez, praised the administration’s commitment to tackling unemployment by producing skilled technicians who can become self-reliant and contribute to the state’s technical and economic development.
Graduating student Daniella Okpako expressed gratitude to the state government for its efforts in advancing technical education and called for scholarships to help students further their education and refine their skills.
The ceremony also celebrated outstanding students, including David Uchendu (Best Overall, Mechanical Engineering Craft Practice) and Daniel Salami (Best in Innovation, Instrument Mechanic Works).
Awards were also presented to top performers in various disciplines from the five Government Technical Colleges in Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by urging the graduates to use their skills not only for personal success but also for the betterment of society, reiterating his administration’s commitment to supporting technical education as a cornerstone of Lagos State’s development.
