Human rights attorney and activist Deji Adeyanju has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) to step up and fulfill their obligations in holding the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) accountable.

In a recent interview, Adeyanju criticized the leadership of both opposition parties for their failure to provide a robust counter to the APC’s governance.

Addressing the legal threats posed by acting PDP National Chairman Umar Damagun and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu regarding his critical comments about the opposition, Adeyanju maintained that his remarks were intended to encourage these parties to take their responsibilities seriously in scrutinizing the ruling government.

He expressed a willingness to confront any legal actions, viewing such threats as attempts to suppress dissenting opinions. “I’m pleased that my statements have caught their attention. The essence of my comments is to remind those in opposition of their duty to hold the government accountable at every level,” he stated.

Adeyanju asserted that both the PDP and the Labour Party have failed to effectively challenge the APC administration and must improve their efforts. “In my view, if they feel compelled to sue me over my statements, I would welcome it,” he added.

He remarked, “I’ve often said that facing arrest feels like free publicity for me, and being jailed serves as a campaign platform. Those experiences are part of what I embrace.”

Emphasizing that he bears no ill will towards anyone, Adeyanju called for the opposition to become a credible force and to actively oppose the government. “All I’m asking is for them to awaken to their responsibilities and truly challenge the government’s actions,” he concluded.
