State chairpersons of the Labour Party (LP) in the North Central geopolitical zone have officially launched their Directorates of Mobilisation and Integration Committees as part of a strategic initiative to expand party membership in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
This initiative is in line with the ambition set by the National Chairman of the LP, Barr. Julius Abure, who aims to register at least 20 million new members before the next elections.
In a statement, Comrade Ibrahim Idoko, the National Vice-Chairman of the Labour Party (North Central), characterized the inaugurations, which took place across various states in the region on Friday, as organized and harmonious. He noted that state chairpersons delivered the National Chairman’s speech on his behalf, following directives from the party’s National Headquarters.
Citing Barr. Abure, Idoko remarked, “The reactive approach taken by the party during the 2023 general elections can certainly be avoided. I firmly believe that if we begin our preparations now for the 2027 elections, it will benefit both the party and those genuinely committed to realizing a New Nigeria.”
He continued, “It is essential to note that achieving a New Nigeria is unattainable without a robust political party equipped to protect our votes and uphold the principles of this vision. Thus, it is crucial that we continue to strengthen and restructure our party to realize the Nigeria we aspire to.”
The National Chairman underscored the need for collective engagement, asserting, “Those who are part of the Labour Party but lack the courage to recruit their friends, family, and followers as members while seeking to leverage the party for electoral victories must reconsider their stance.”
Idoko also announced the appointment of coordinators and secretaries for the Directorates, including John Kwaghza and Agada Onu for Benue; Kenneth Sunday and Andy Alagbaoso for the FCT Abuja; Philip Yakubu-Pam and Nura Tanko for Plateau; Ablaku Anthony and Musa Mohammed for Nasarawa; and Hon. Ibrahim Sanusi for Kogi State.
He urged the committees and party members to remain loyal to Barr. Julius Abure’s leadership and uphold discipline as they work toward the party’s membership ambitions.
“I am confident that with the establishment of these Mobilisation and Integration Committees in the North Central region, our party is poised for significant electoral victories in the future, as I have faith in the capabilities of everyone on the team to deliver,” the statement concluded.
