The Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his dedication to advancing infrastructure development for the judiciary.

Wike made this commitment during the inauguration of the construction and furnishing of an Office Annex for the Body of Benchers in Abuja on Friday.

Despite facing criticism suggesting that his efforts were merely attempts to gain favor, Wike emphasized his unwavering support for the judiciary and other government branches. “Ignore the naysayers. I won’t engage in arguments; I will simply continue to focus on my work for the good of the country. That is my priority,” he remarked.

He expressed gratitude to Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, for highlighting the importance of collaboration among the three branches of government.

“As mentioned, the federal capital territory is currently providing the official residence for the legislature, which is a separate branch of government. Moreover, FCT is also constructing the new National Assembly complex, which will eventually be handed over to the legislature for management. This has nothing to do with meddling in governmental functions,” he clarified.

Wike extended his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for approving both the National Assembly project and the Office Annex for the Body of Benchers. He also announced the approval of a housing project consisting of ten units for lecturers at the Nigerian Law School.

He stressed the necessity of these projects, noting that they serve a public institution owned by the federal government, which has historically lacked essential infrastructure.

Assuring the Body of Benchers of his dedication and support, Wike stated, “I am committed to making you proud, and you will witness significant improvements in governance.”

He added, “As a lawyer and a member of the Body of Benchers, I want to be able to reflect on my time in office and respond to questions about my contributions to the development of legal education and the judiciary. It is easy to critique from the sidelines, but when given the chance, I want to be able to say that, as the FCT minister, I made impactful contributions.”
