Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has offered insightful guidance to politicians, urging them to move beyond the confines of self-serving politics and focus on enhancing the overall welfare and developmental needs of the community.
Governor Fubara shared this perspective during the inauguration of Okocha Road and Spurs in the Rumuolumeni Community, held at the Okocha Road Junction on Nkpor Road in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Tuesday.
He emphasized that the essence of politics should not be limited to distinguishing between supporters and opponents for personal gains but should rather seek to genuinely address the needs of the populace.
“My counsel is straightforward: politics isn’t solely about who supports you or who opposes you. It should also encompass addressing the needs of the community. If I were ill-intentioned, I might have chosen not to visit this area due to its nature and location,” he remarked.
“However, it is our governmental responsibility to deliver services, safeguard lives, and ensure the well-being of our citizens. Our presence here today is not for personal recognition; it’s about the government fulfilling its duty. A compassionate government aims to bring joy to its people.”
In discussing the project’s background, Governor Fubara noted that following the 2023 Presidential Election, there was a pressing need to alleviate the concerns of supporters in the area to secure their votes in his upcoming governorship election.
He explained, “We had to take all necessary steps to ensure our comfort in my own election. The residents of this community are largely transient, yet they represent a significant voting demographic.”
“Our supporters engaged with them, articulated our vision, and they recognized the reasons to back us in the election. Thus, my presence here today is to express gratitude for their belief in us.”
