Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has taken aim at Christopher Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), after Maikalangu stated that he could not provide security vehicles for the police.
Wike voiced his concerns, labeling Maikalangu’s remarks as “embarrassing” during an event where he presented 50 operational vehicles to various security agencies in Abuja.
Maikalangu had explained that he lacked the necessary resources and capacity to provide the requested vehicles for security agencies. He mentioned that he had received several requests for vehicle support but was unable to meet those demands.
In his reaction, Wike expressed his astonishment, stating, “It is quite troubling to hear a council chairman publicly declare that he has no capacity to supply vehicles for security agencies.”
“Yet, you serve as the chief security officer of your local government. Every time you collect revenue, where does that money go?” he questioned.
“It is truly embarrassing to suggest that you cannot even establish a police station. Security is a collective responsibility, and you, as the council chairman, have a part to play.”
Wike reflected on his own tenure as council chairman, recalling, “During my time, I built police stations, provided vehicles, and ensured they had access to water. Security is paramount. So if you claim you lack capacity, then what is your role as council chairman?”
“Fortunately, you have revealed your limitations, and we will see the consequences in the next election. Remember, it was you who said this, not me. And fortunately, this statement is being broadcast live,” he added.
