Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced the party’s intention to secure Rivers State in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Ganduje made this statement during the inauguration ceremony for the newly elected state executive committee of the APC. The former governor of Kano highlighted that while the South-South region is predominantly under the influence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC is making significant strides in the area, having already gained ground in Cross River and Edo States.
In his address, Ganduje extended his congratulations to the new state executive members and noted that typically, such inaugurations are conducted at the national secretariat in Abuja. However, he emphasized a shift in approach, stating, “To strengthen our roots in the grassroots, we chose to hold this inauguration here in Rivers State, eliminating the gap between the national and state executives.”
He expressed the importance of fostering a close relationship with the state, stating, “Rivers State is our constituency. We need to engage with the state, maintain harmony, and collaborate effectively. It is essential for us to develop a bond with the state.”
Ganduje reminded the party leaders of their responsibilities as outlined in the APC constitution, urging them to promote internal democracy and actively recruit new members. He stressed the need for political skill to ensure the party’s continued growth in their respective constituencies.
Leading a delegation of 16 members from the party’s National Working Committee, Ganduje urged the 36-member state executive to prioritize peace within the party. He stated, “You must implement efficient conflict resolution strategies. As party leaders, I trust you are capable of this task.”
He acknowledged the historical dominance of the PDP in the region but pointed out the APC’s successes during previous administrations, noting, “During Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, we successfully transitioned Cross River from PDP to APC. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we claimed Edo State as well.”
Ganduje then reinforced his statements, saying that out of the six states in the South-South region, the APC has already gained two, “Rivers State is our next target. We are here for you, and the path to victory is being paved.”,He Stated.
