The Federal Government has approved the establishment of four new educational institutions in Zaria, Kaduna State, to bolster the city’s reputation as an educational hub.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, announced this while addressing the Zaria Educational and Development Association (ZEDA) during groundbreaking ceremonies for the projects.
The newly approved institutions include:
1. A Federal College of Education.
2. A state-of-the-art College of Health Sciences.
3. A National Open University campus.
4. A College of Legal Studies.
Speaking at the event, Speaker Abbas emphasized the transformative impact these institutions would have on the region’s educational landscape, adding that they would provide critical resources and opportunities for residents.
Renovation of 116 Schools
The Speaker also revealed ongoing renovation efforts in Zaria’s primary and secondary schools. A total of 116 schools are currently undergoing upgrades, with plans for further improvements.
Budget 2025: Zaria’s Educational Needs in Focus
Addressing theupcoming 2025 budget, Abbas urged ZEDA to share their needs and priorities, assuring the community of his readiness to intervene. “This is the time to let us know what you require, particularly now that the budget is on its way. We are ready to assist where we can,” he said.
Details of the Projects
The Federal College of Education will replace an existing College of Education recently upgraded to university status.
The College of Health Sciences will address the growing demand for healthcare professionals, including nurses and midwives, in Zaria and the northwest region.
A National Open University campus will cater to civil servants and others who cannot attend conventional educational institutions.
The College of Legal Studies will expand opportunities for legal education in the region.
Abbas expressed gratitude for the community’s support, reiterating his commitment to making Zaria a center of educational excellence.
“Zaria is not known for commerce or industry, but for education. We must focus on strengthening and expanding our educational infrastructure,” he noted.
The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, December 15, 2024, marks a milestone in Zaria’s educational development, as these projects aim to secure the city’s future as an academic hub.
