The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of children in a stampede at a funfair in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
In a condolence statement released on Friday, the Speaker labeled the event as a heartbreaking tragedy.
The Oyo State Police Command has reported that 35 children lost their lives, with six others suffering from various injuries due to the chaos that ensued.
In his message of sympathy, conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Abbas extended his condolences to the Oyo State government and its citizens, particularly the families affected by this unfortunate incident.
He urged for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stampede to prevent future occurrences and called for heightened awareness during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities. The Speaker also offered prayers for the souls of the deceased.
