Spanish Capital club Atletico Madrid came from a goal down to beat rivals Barcelona as they rose to number one in the league standing.

Atletico fell 1-0 at half time to Hansi Flick’s men but a second half display gave Atletico the upper hand as they registered their first win at Barcelona home ground since 2006.

Youngster Pedri Gonzalez handed Barcelona the lead in the 30th minute but Rodrigo De Paul’s effort cancelled out the lead in the 60th minute.

A crazy ending saw Atletico Madrid’s Sorloth score in the dying minutes of the game to take his side to the peak of the standings.

Atletico Madrid who have one game in hand are three points above Barcelona and four above Real Madrid who are second on the log with 37 points and two games in hand.

“We played exactly as I want to see, it was GREAT. That’s the style I want here at Barça”. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said after the game.

“I’m sad for the result as losing 9 points at home is not normal… but performance, it was great.

“That’s how I want the team to play”. He added.

Reacting to the victory, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone said, “Today’s my dad’s birthday, he passed away two years ago… it was a nice present from him, for sure”.
