Tony Okocha, the head of the Rivers State faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has responded to recent court rulings questioning the legitimacy of his faction’s executive committee.
During a birthday celebration with widows on Sunday, December 22, 2024, Okocha dismissed the legal challenges as trivial and asserted the party’s authority over such matters.
In his address, Okocha reaffirmed that the APC, under his guidance, would persist in its activities despite facing legal hurdles.
He criticized a court order issued by Justice Godwin Obomanu of the Port Harcourt High Court, which invalidated his faction’s executive committee, alleging that Governor Sim Fubara was behind the ruling to destabilize his leadership.
“Let them do what they want. I will not flee Nigeria. The Supreme Court has already established that issues concerning internal party governance are to be resolved within the party itself, not through the courts,” Okocha stated.
He also cautioned party members who are pursuing legal actions against the APC, saying, “If the kitchen is too hot for you, then perhaps it’s time to step out.”
Okocha highlighted that the APC’s primary focus is on providing palliative assistance to local communities, including the distribution of 23,000 bags of rice across various wards and local councils.
