Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate from the 2023 elections, has voiced his deep concern regarding the recent kidnapping of Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North in the Anambra State House of Assembly. According to reports, Azuka was abducted on Tuesday night by unknown assailants while traveling along Ugwunapampa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, as he was heading home to celebrate the Christmas holidays.
In a post shared on X, Obi expressed his disappointment over the deteriorating security situation in the country, warning that if the issue remains unaddressed, it could engulf the entire nation.
The former Governor of Anambra State commended those working diligently to protect lives and property across Nigeria and urged increased efforts to combat the growing threat of insecurity.
Obi stated, “Recent media reports confirmed that Hon. Justice Azuka, a representative of Onitsha North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has been kidnapped in our vibrant city of Onitsha. He was simply returning home to celebrate the Christmas season with his family when he fell victim to this crime.
“I have consistently warned that if we do not tackle the challenge of insecurity, it will ultimately affect all of us. These criminals are becoming increasingly brazen in their actions, and if we do not act now, no one will be safe.
“I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone on the front lines, working tirelessly to safeguard lives and property in Nigeria. However, we must intensify our efforts and make greater sacrifices to overcome this menace of insecurity.
“I urge the security agencies to take all necessary measures to ensure the safe recovery of Hon. Justice Azuka and to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.”
