Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has proclaimed that the party is effectively dead. He criticized the current leadership for prioritizing access to government positions over the well-being and operational effectiveness of the party at all levels.
In a recent interview, Lukman lamented that efforts made over the past year to push for a more functional party structure have been futile, as the leaders have neglected internal democracy and shown little regard for the functioning of party organs.
When asked about the potential for revitalizing the APC, Lukman asserted that the party is “practically dead,” pointing to a lack of meetings across all levels and advocating for the formation of a fundamentally different political party.
He emphasized the need for a new political entity that stands apart from the current landscape in Nigeria and possesses the strength to compete in elections.
“We must create a political party that significantly differs from what we have today. My plea to Nigerians is that we should not permit the wrong individuals to dominate the political arena,” he stated.
