Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was named Man of the Match in their 2-2 draw at Anfield against league leaders Liverpool.

United started brightly with some glimpses of quality from both ends as goalkeeper André Onana kept the half-time at goalless while both Rasmus Holland and Amad Diallo missed glorious opportunities to put their team in front.

RubĂ©n Amorim’s side returned for the second half with purpose and grabbed the opener, thanks to a thunderbolt effort from defender Lizandro Martinez who sent his effort straight into the inside of the crossbar beyond goalkeeper Allison Becker.

Seven minutes later, the host drew level back after Dutch forward Gakpo had sent the sliding Matthijs De Ligt out of the way to find the far top corner in the 59th minute.

Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah scored from the spot after De Ligt was adjudged to have handled the ball with his hand inside the area to score his 18th goal of the season, as much as he managed in 32 games last season.

Their lead lasted for just ten minutes as United in-form man Amad Diallo slotted home Alejandro Gernacho’s left-footed cross to level the score in the 80th minute.

United has grabbed their first point since after beating Manchester City away from home and it would have been three points if Harry Maguire had scored his clear chance at the death of the game.
