Godwin Obaseki, the former governor of Edo State, has vehemently rejected reports suggesting he made disparaging remarks about Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki labelled these reports as false and misleading.

He urged the public to ignore the erroneous publication, asserting that he has never viewed Wike as his master or political godfather, but rather as a fellow governor who served during the same period.

The statement elaborated, “We have encountered a completely misleading and erroneous report published on Opera News on January 4, 2025. This report falsely claims that His Excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki, visited Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and made comments about the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Symfoni TV, a social media news outlet.”

It continued, “Additionally, the article incorrectly referred to Mr. Obaseki as the Governor of Edo State, which is not accurate, as he completed his tenure on November 11, 2024. Therefore, it is impossible for him to have attended any event in Port Harcourt or made statements as the sitting governor.”

The statement concluded by criticizing the report’s author, implying that they were either being deceitful or mistakenly believed Obaseki was still in office. It clarified, “For the record, Mr. Obaseki has never considered Nyesom Wike as his superior. They were merely colleagues serving as governors at the same time. Consequently, any comments attributed to him in this misleading report should be entirely disregarded.”
