Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the ancient town of Owo, located in Owo Local Government Area, following deadly clashes between rival cult groups that claimed five lives.
The violent incidents reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, sparking widespread tension in the community. The governor’s decision to implement the curfew was conveyed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
According to the statement, the curfew aims to address the ongoing security challenges and prevent further loss of life and property.
The statement reads: “Due to the ongoing violent cult clashes and security disturbances in Owo, which have led to loss of lives, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has ordered a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the town, till further notice.
“All residents are required to remain indoors during the curfew. Only essential services, such as hospitals, emergency services, and law enforcement, will be exempt from the curfew.
“The Governor has also asked security agencies in the state to enforce the curfew, ensure the safety of lives and properties, arrest perpetrators of the violence, and restore peace to the community.”
The Ondo State government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of its citizens while urging residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies to ensure the successful restoration of peace in Owo.
