The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is experiencing a significant loss with the defection of Sulaimon Abolaji Thompson, a candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly in the 2023 elections, along with his supporters to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Sulaimon outlined the reasons behind his decision to switch allegiance to the ruling party and expressed gratitude for his time in the PDP.

He officially announced his resignation from the PDP, noting that several of his supporters have chosen to follow him to his new political home.

The statement read, “I feel compelled to formally announce my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.

“My decision stems from ongoing internal conflicts, persistent legal battles, continuous leadership disputes, and a blatant disregard for established authorities, among other issues. These factors have been crucial in my choice to leave.

“This was not an easy decision; it followed considerable reflection on my political journey and alignment with my heritage and core values.

“First and foremost, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunities and shared vision I encountered during my time in the PDP. The exceptional leadership and collective efforts of the members have been invaluable, and I take pride in the achievements we have accomplished together.”

He continued, “After much contemplation and extensive political discussions, I have concluded that it is time for me to reconnect with my political roots by joining the progressives, the party that resonates with my heritage and family ideologies.

“This decision is driven by several key factors: Alignment with Foundational Principles—the APC’s values align more closely with my personal beliefs and political goals. It embodies the vision and ideology I support.

“Commitment to Development—the APC has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to policies that foster growth for my community, my people, and the nation as a whole. I feel a stronger connection to these strategies aimed at achieving sustainable development.

“Cultural and Historical Ties—my familial and political background has always been closely associated with the progressives, and returning feels like a homecoming that honors the legacy of my ancestors.

“A Renewed Vision for Change—at this pivotal moment in our nation’s history, I am motivated by the leadership of the APC and am eager to contribute to the party’s agenda for impactful change.

“As I part ways with the PDP, I do so with deep respect and appreciation.”

“I trust that my decision will be received with mutual respect and understanding. I remain dedicated to serving our community, state, and nation.”
