The All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced its intentions to seize control of Abia State by 2027, pledging to deliver greater democratic benefits to the residents.
During a gathering at Abiriba Stadium in the Ohafia Local Government Area, Kingsley Ononogbu, the Chairman of APC in Abia, welcomed former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Kelvin Jombo Onumah and his supporters into the party.
Ononogbu expressed confidence that the APC would leverage the successes achieved by notable party members, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in the Senate, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu in the House of Representatives, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, to secure key positions in the upcoming 2027 elections.
He emphasized that the party has rectified previous errors that hindered its performance in the 2023 elections and is now more cohesive and ready to govern the state. “If we take over Abia State in 2027, you can expect to see more tangible and verifiable actions,” he declared.
While presenting the APC flag to Jombo, Ononogbu affirmed that the former PDP member had made a wise decision by aligning with the APC.
In his address, Jombo stated that his motivation for joining the party was to facilitate development for the people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal constituency and enhance the overall welfare of Abia North, while also contributing positively to the APC.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, also speaking at the event, urged Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, assuring them that the current challenges of hardship and hunger would eventually be overcome. He asserted that the APC remains the largest political party in the nation and called for balanced media coverage of the party’s accomplishments.
In response, Abraham Amah, the Chairman of the PDP, released a statement on Friday asserting that his party would rebound and surprise skeptics and detractors alike.
