The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has addressed the swirling rumours regarding Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s alleged shift to their party, firmly stating that they are “not a rehabilitation camp for failed politicians.” The party made it clear that it has no interest in political manoeuvring or affiliations based on personal interests.

In a statement from their state publicity secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo, the APC criticized Governor Oborevwori’s administration, labelling it as ineffective and disappointing, with a notable lack of meaningful progress for the people of Delta State. The APC emphasized its respect for individuals’ rights to choose their political affiliations but expressed indifference towards the governor’s potential defection, pointing out his reported lack of significant achievements since taking office.

While acknowledging that Governor Oborevwori has occasionally commended President Bola Tinubu’s developmental efforts, the APC accused him of mismanaging Delta State’s resources, despite the state receiving over ₦50 billion in federal allocations each month.

“Deltans are disheartened by the evident failures of this administration, and we remain committed to our goal of fostering sustainable development through visionary leadership,” the party’s statement concluded.

In response, Delta State’s Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, criticized the APC for reacting based on rumours rather than informed facts. He indicated that the party’s reliance on speculation reveals a disconnect from their core values.

Osuoza remarked that by labelling the defection as mere “speculation,” the Delta APC demonstrates a lack of confidence and control, describing their actions as a desperate attempt to survive through misguided propaganda. “Their efforts will not bear fruit,” he added.
