Teen Prodigy Becomes Youngest Person to Earn PhD from Arizona University

Alena Analeigh Wicker, who graduated from high school at 15, has achieved an impressive milestone by earning her doctorate in molecular and cellular biology at the tender age of 17.
Wicker’s remarkable academic journey began when she started taking college courses at 11 years old. She credits her parents and mentors for supporting her passion for science and encouraging her to pursue her dreams.
Wicker’s research focused on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of college students.
Her dissertation, titled “The Impact of COVID-19 on the Mental Well-being of College Students,” explored the ways in which the pandemic affected students’ mental health and academic performance.
