The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has affirmed that the ongoing crisis in Rivers State has not diverted his attention from his ministerial responsibilities. He emphasized his unwavering focus on the duties of his office, undeterred by the political turmoil in his home state.
Wike made these remarks during an inspection of projects scheduled for inauguration in the nation’s capital on Friday, May 17. The inspection highlighted several key developments under his administration, showcasing his commitment to the infrastructural growth of the FCT.
Since October 2023, Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, have been embroiled in a political conflict. This tension escalated when a faction of state lawmakers initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. Despite this backdrop of political strife, Wike insists that his ministerial duties remain his top priority.

Addressing journalists during the inspection tour in Abuja, Wike stated that his performance and the visible progress of the projects are testament to his undivided attention to his role. “I am not distracted. If I’m distracted, you won’t see this performance here. I focus on my work. I am the Minister of the FCT, and the works are going on. So, why would I be distracted? I don’t even think about it at all,” he said.
