Manchester City Midfielder Phil Foden has been Announced as the Premier League’s Player of the Season after a very wonderful season with the club.
His top performances could make Manchester Premier League champions once again as they push on for the Premier League Title.
The England international has played a very important role in Pep Guardiola’s side throughout the season and has been a standout player this season.
Man City is on the verge of winning the title as they just require a win against West Ham on Sunday to be crowned champions amid a close battle with Arsenal throughout the campaign.
Foden has scored 17 goals and set up a further eight in the Premier League this season so far, directly contributing to 25 goals.
After winning the award, Foden said, ‘To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of.
‘The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.
‘Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season.
‘I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches, and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible.
‘And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.’
Alongside Foden, Man City team-mate and last year’s winner Erling Haaland was nominated, as well as Arsenal duo Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Foden becomes the fifth consecutive Man City player to win the Player of the Year award.
Kevin De Bruyne First earned the award in the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons, Ruben Dias in the 2020-21 season while Haaland claimed the award last season.
Foden is the first player from England to win the award since Jamie Vardy won it with Leicester in the 2015-16 season.
It is the latest award Foden has this season in a superb individual season, with the 23-year-old star also winning the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year Award recently.
