The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad has successfully closed down an illegal refining site that contained over 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil in Adobe settlement, Etche Local Government Area of rivers State.
The Commander of the CG’s SIS, Dandaura Appolos, mentioned that the operation’s success was due to a reliable intel suggesting that the suspects had tampered with a wellhead belonging to a multinational company.
He mentioned further that the suspects linked galvanized metal pipes to large hoses to siphon and process the crude oil locally.
The NSCDC Spokesman, Babawale Afolabi, mentioned that the SIS(Special Intelligence Squad) quickly acted on the tip-off and discovered multiple locations where significant illegal refining activities were ongoing.
He further emphasized the importance of safeguarding informants and handling all received information with care and urgency. Even upon arrival of the SIS, the suspects attempted to flee but the team managed to apprehend one individual who bears the name Godspower Oyibo, a 32 year-old male from Delta State, who currently is cooperating with the authorities for further investigation.
The crime scene revealed so many items being used such as reservoirs cemented with trampoline holding around 100,000 liters of crude oil, a yellow Robin EY 20 pumping machine, galvanized metal pipes, long large hoses, a vandalized wellhead, 100,000 liters of stolen crude stored in reservoirs, calibrated surface tanks, diesel fuel in cooking pots, and metal buckets.
