In a major blow to internet fraudsters, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 78 suspects in Enugu and Imo states. The operation, which was carried out on May 15 and 17, is part of the agency’s efforts to combat online criminal activities and bring perpetrators to justice.
According to the EFCC, the suspects were arrested following intelligence reports that they were involved in various forms of internet fraud, including business email compromise, romance scams, and phishing. The agency recovered 13 cars, mobile phones, and laptops from the suspects, which are believed to be proceeds of their illegal activities.
The EFCC has vowed to continue its crackdown on cybercriminals, and the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are complete. This operation is a significant step in the fight against cybercrime in Nigeria, and it serves as a warning to those involved in such activities that they will be brought to justice.
The EFCC has urged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the agency and to be vigilant in their online transactions to avoid falling victim to internet fraud.
