Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by the factional Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, are set to screen eight commissioner-nominees today, as presented by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This process follows a letter sent by the Assembly’s Clerk, Dr. G. N. Gillis-West, on Monday, inviting the nominees for screening. The letter, which our correspondent obtained on Tuesday, announced that the screening would commence at 10 a.m.

The letter, titled “Public Announcement,” detailed the names of the nominees invited for screening and confirmation as members of the Rivers State Executive Council.

The nominees listed include Charles Beke, Collins Onunwo, Solomon Eke, Dr. Peter Medee, Eloka Amadi, Basoene Benibo, Tambari Gbara, and Dr. Ovy Chukwuma.

According to the letter, the nominees are to appear before the House at the State House of Assembly auditorium, located in the Admin Block of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Furthermore, the nominees have been instructed to bring 12 sets of their Curriculum Vitae, along with the originals and photocopies of their credentials.

This screening process marks the second instance in which the House of Assembly loyal to Governor Fubara has conducted such an activity since it emerged as a parallel legislative body.

Just last week, the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led assembly screened and confirmed Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, as a member of the State Executive Council.

Following his confirmation, Iboroma was appointed the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, a significant position within the state government.

The ongoing developments in the Rivers State House of Assembly highlight the current political dynamics and the efforts of the faction led by Victor Oko-Jumbo to assert its authority.

As this situation unfolds, it underscores the importance of the legislative process in ensuring that capable individuals are appointed to key positions within the state government.

The outcomes of these screenings will play a pivotal role in shaping the administration’s ability to govern effectively and address the needs of the people of Rivers State.
