Late Monday night, two students from Lagos State University (LASU) were hit by stray bullets in a popular student residential area known as PPL, just outside the campus. The incident occurred around 8 PM while the students were out buying food.

The identities of the students and the shooter(s) remain unknown. On Twitter, a user named Baddy of Lasu, tweeting as #belikebaddy, warned other students to stay indoors. “Two students have been shot at PPL, Ojo, Lagos. Please, students of LASU, stay indoors and don’t go out,” he wrote.

Kappo Olawale, the Senior Special Adviser on Students’ Union Affairs to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the incident. Tweeting as #kappozino, Olawale said he had spoken with the university’s Student Union President, who reported that the victims are now in stable condition. “The Dean of Students was also on the ground to ensure they were properly attended to. Thanks to God!”

One anonymous student from the university, speaking to Thepaan News, explained that the victims had gone to get food when they were struck by the bullets.

In a video circulating online, one victim, a female student, was shown lying on a bed with her shirt soaked in blood. The other victim, a male student, was hit in the neck and arm. He was quickly taken to the LASU Health Centre and then transferred to Igando Medical Hospital, where he is now responding to treatment.

The Dean of Students Affairs was present at the hospital to support the injured students.
