Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully apprehended a notorious kidnapper and several suspected informants, including two women, in operations carried out in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Oyo State.
In a statement released on Friday, May 24, 2024, the Army detailed that Usman Mohammed Aliyu, a notorious kidnapper, was captured during a stop-and-search operation on the Igboho-Igbeti Road in Igbeti Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Additionally, the statement highlighted that troops raided a kidnappers’ hideout in the Ajegunle Mpape area of Bwari, FCT, where they arrested a notorious informant, Ashiru Mohammed, along with his female accomplices, Raham Abubakar and Sadiya Mohammed.

The statement read: “In recent anti-kidnap operations based on credible intelligence, troops of the Nigerian Army deployed for internal security duties made significant strides in combating kidnap activities in the Federal Capital Territory and Oyo State.”
“In the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, troops conducted a raid on Thursday, May 23, 2024, targeting a known hideout of kidnappers in Ajegunle Mpape. During the operation, they apprehended an informant suspect named Ashiru Mohammed and his two female accomplices, Raham Abubakar and Sadiya Mohammed.”
The suspects were found in possession of a Beretta pistol, a pistol magazine, 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition, five ATM cards from different banks, two mobile phones, and suspected illicit drugs. The suspects are currently aiding in further investigations.
In a related development, troops acting on a tip-off about a kidnap syndicate operating around Sepeteri in the Shaki area of Oyo State carried out a stop-and-search operation along the Igboho-Igbeti Road. During this operation, they intercepted a suspected kidnapper, Usman Mohammed Aliyu, who was found with four hundred thousand naira (N400,000.00) in his possession. Aliyu later confessed to being involved in cattle rustling and kidnapping. The suspects will be handed over to appropriate prosecuting agencies after investigations are concluded.
“These coordinated operations demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s dedication to maintaining security and combating criminal activities in collaboration with other security agencies across the country,” the statement concluded.
“The arrests and seizures are expected to significantly disrupt the operations of kidnap syndicates and other criminal networks in the affected areas.”
