The dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero has returned to the Kano Palace in the early hours of Saturday, 25th May 2024 After been deposed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday, the monarch’s whereabouts became unknown.

The state House of Assembly had repealed a law enacted by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on December 5, 2019, which had divided the emirate into five and installed new Emirs. Following the repeal, Governor Yusuf ordered the affected Emirs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours and to hand over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Governor Yusuf subsequently reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi, who had been removed as Emir of Kano in 2020. Sanusi received his reappointment letter on Friday and led the Jumat prayers at the Government House in Kano.
By early Saturday morning, Ado Bayero had returned to Kano, welcomed by a throng of supporters.
Governor Abba Yusuf officially reappointed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano, citing the authority granted to him by the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, as well as the recommendation of the kingmakers.
