Kayode Babayomi, the Oyo State Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC), has expressed strong discontent with Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, asserting that it has failed to deliver effective governance to the people of Oyo State.
In a recent interview, Babayomi accused Governor Makinde of misleading residents through his social media presence, dubbing him the “most packaged social media governor” in Nigeria. He lamented the deteriorating conditions in critical sectors such as education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
“Governor Makinde’s administration has been incredibly disappointing. Assessing his performance seems futile as we struggle to find any positives. What do we have to boast about in Oyo State? Absolutely nothing,” Babayomi declared.
He criticized the administration for focusing on social media portrayals rather than tangible achievements. “Is there any progress in agriculture or education? Given Oyo State’s vast land, we should be experiencing agricultural abundance,” he noted.
Babayomi highlighted the dire state of educational facilities, stating that both students and teachers are forced to operate in inadequate environments. He accused the governor of being unserious about infrastructure improvements, pointing out that many schools still suffer from crumbling structures and overcrowded classrooms.
“The educational sector is in shambles. We see no improvements. Students are crammed into dilapidated classrooms, often sharing space with multiple grades,” he explained.
Additionally, he criticized the state of the roads, lamenting that the administration has failed to deliver real infrastructure progress. “All we see are temporary fixes to existing roads, many of which have been patched multiple times in just five years of Makinde’s tenure.”
Babayomi concluded by asserting that Oyo residents are aware of the governor’s shortcomings, viewing him merely as a “social media-packaged Governor” with little to show for his time in office.
