Alex Ikwechegh, representing the Aba North & South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, is currently under police interrogation in Abuja following allegations of assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
The incident reportedly took place on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent in Maitama, where Abuwatseya had arrived to deliver a package for the lawmaker.
According to a circulating video, the dispute began over delivery arrangements, culminating in the lawmaker allegedly slapping Abuwatseya. In the footage, Ikwechegh is heard questioning the driver on whether he “knew who he was talking to,” followed by a threat to “make him disappear.”
FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed that the lawmaker is being questioned at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a full investigation to ensure justice is served, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
