The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested five suspects and seized approximately 20,000 litres of crude oil, allegedly siphoned from a vandalized pipeline in the Umielechi/Izam community, Abia State.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer Babawale Afolabi, in a statement released on Monday in Abuja, confirmed the arrests, following an intelligence report received by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS).

The Commander of the CG SIS, Commandant Appolos Dandaura, disclosed that the operation successfully led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen crude oil, which had been packed in cellophane bags. The suspects attempted to flee on motorcycles but were apprehended in the Obuzor ASA area of Ukwa West, Abia State.

“This is another significant achievement in our ongoing fight against crude oil theft across the nation,” Afolabi stated, noting that the operation was carried out under the directive of Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who has declared zero tolerance for vandalism and oil theft.

The arrested suspects include Daniel Augustine (20), Moses Friday (23), Igboshe Musua (42), Sadiq Yunusa (28), and Dozie Ugo (33). Items recovered from the scene included approximately 20,000 litres of crude oil, two Dalong Super Wolf motorcycles, a Qlink 150-ES motorcycle, and a Nasara Super D-S 150 motorcycle.

Reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure, Commandant Appolos emphasized that the NSCDC would continue its efforts to combat oil theft and vandalism, ensuring that all national assets remain secure.
