The Abia State government has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Goodluck Ubochi, has resigned. The news, which emerged two weeks after Ubochi’s swearing-in by Governor Alex Otti, was described as false and baseless by the government.

Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, stated that the report was spread by members of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and other recruited individuals. Ekeoma quoted Ubochi as saying that he was embarrassed by the fake information, which also affected his family.

The government expressed concern over the increasing spread of fake news about the state government by opposition members. Ekeoma warned the public to be cautious and skeptical of such reports.

This incident highlights the challenges of misinformation in the digital age, where false news can spread quickly and cause harm to individuals and institutions. The Abia State government’s swift response to the report demonstrates its commitment to setting the record straight and maintaining transparency.
