Obi Aguocha, the representative for Ikwuano/Umuahia in the House of Representatives from Abia State, confidently asserts that Alex Otti will be re-elected as governor in 2027, crediting him for his significant contributions to the state’s development.
Aguocha, affiliated with the Labour Party (LP)—the very platform that propelled Otti to the governorship—responded to recent assertions from Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who contended that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would secure the governorship of Abia State in the upcoming election.
In a widely shared interview, Kalu expressed his disbelief at being the nation’s number six leader while another party governs his home state. He emphasized that the next governor must emerge from the APC as a gesture of gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for endorsing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill and other initiatives.
In a statement directed at Kalu and circulated to the press in Abuja on Monday, Aguocha dismissed the notion of any vacancy in the Abia State Government House in 2027.
“If your aspirations lead you to seek the governorship of Abia State in 2027, that is your prerogative. However, it would be best to be forthright rather than cloaking your intentions in discontent and insincere political maneuvering,” Aguocha remarked.
He further asserted, “Just as you wish for Abians to reward Tinubu for his contributions, they will, in turn, honor Alex Otti for his remarkable achievements come 2027. Otti will undoubtedly be re-elected as the governor of Abia State.”
Aguocha noted that Kalu has often attempted to downplay his ambitions during his encounters with Otti, all while professing loyalty to the governor’s notable accomplishments.
“My esteemed colleague, let it be known that no position will be vacant in Abia State in 2027. For nearly 24 years, this is the first time we have experienced such effective leadership and governance. Anyone who fails to recognize Dr. Alex Otti’s impact is an adversary of progress. Furthermore, the Labour Party also claimed victory in Bende Federal Constituency in 2023; we could easily declare that seat vacant as well,” he added.
Aguocha urged Kalu to leverage his influential role as Deputy Speaker to uplift the voices of the people, fostering inclusivity and reducing regional agitation. “This opportunity should not just be a platform for showcasing your position; it should be used to champion the interests of our constituents,” he concluded.
