A Federal High Court in Abuja has approved bail for Isaac Bristol, recognized by police as the whistleblower associated with the PIDOMNigeria account on X.
The presiding judge, Emeka Nwite, set the bail amount at N5 million, requiring Bristol to present one surety of equal financial standing.
This decision came after Deji Adeyanju, who heads Bristol’s legal team, submitted a motion on notice—a formal appeal for the court to undertake a specific action. The court’s ruling, which followed careful consideration of the arguments and evidence provided, reflects the judicial process at work.
In addition to the bail conditions, Justice Nwite mandated that Bristol surrender his passport to the court as part of the release terms.
The judge further stipulated that the surety must reside in Abuja and provide an affidavit confirming their financial capability. Additionally, the surety is required to submit evidence of three years’ tax clearance alongside two recent passport-sized photographs.
Bristol has been held at the Kuje Correctional Centre since September 11 and faces serious charges, including alleged treason.
He is accused of gathering support to “unduly compel” the government through the #EndBadGovernance protests, propagating false money-laundering claims against President Bola Tinubu, and unlawfully acquiring, retaining, and sharing classified documents in violation of the Official Secrets Act of 1962.
