Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), revealed on Monday that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given the green light for the construction of roads in the satellite towns surrounding Abuja.

Wike shared this information during a briefing with State House reporters after the FEC meeting, stressing that these satellite areas have long been overlooked by previous administrations, which failed to acknowledge the significance of fostering development in these regions.

“It aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda to extend development initiatives to the satellite towns,” he stated. “As I speak today, I am confident that by December, we will inaugurate over 75 kilometers of road. The President has emphasized the necessity of providing hope and infrastructure to these towns.”

The development will focus on three area councils: Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari, which have been earmarked for infrastructure improvements as approved by the National Economic Council (NEC).

Additionally, Wike announced that the FEC has sanctioned the upgrade of Artillery Road N5, specifically the stretch from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road, aimed at alleviating congestion in the area. This project will be executed by Julius Berger and is expected to be completed within 16 to 17 months.

In recognition of the judiciary’s importance, the President has instructed the FCT, through the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), to immediately construct accommodations for 40 judges and justices in the Kantampe District. This initiative includes 20 quarters for the FCT High Courts, ten for the Federal High Court, and ten for the Court of Appeal, all to be completed within 15 months.

Moreover, Wike mentioned that the FEC has also approved the construction of access roads from Artillery Road N11 to the Judges Quarters and from Ring Road 1-N16 Shehu Shagari Way to the same quarters, both set for completion in 15 months.

The council further ratified the full development of all connecting roads to the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal. Wike also noted that the FEC has approved the termination of the contract for the Maitama 2 development, an area that had been allocated to various citizens.

He pointed out that before the current administration took office, the Maitama 2 area had around 1,700 allotees, and the contract was originally worth N184 billion for infrastructural provisions.
