Joe Igbokwe, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized activist Aisha Yesufu, accusing her of engaging in behavior he deems nonsensical.

According to Igbokwe, Yesufu’s refusal to sing the new national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee,” at an event is disrespectful and damaging to herself and her family.

He expressed his disapproval of her actions, suggesting that she may not comprehend the consequences of her behavior.

In a video shared by Yesufu on an undisclosed platform, she can be seen using her phone while the new national anthem is being recited. She captioned the video with the statement, “Not my national anthem.”

Igbokwe took to Facebook to respond, stating that Aisha Yesufu lacks respect for the National Anthem.

He expressed curiosity about the outcome of her perceived nonsensical behavior and warned that it could have negative repercussions for her and her family.

President Bola Tinubu reportedly signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday. The bill reintroduces the old national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee,” with the president’s assent.

This decision has sparked mixed reactions as some question its timing amidst the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Tinubu defended the reintroduction of the old national anthem, emphasizing its importance to him.
