Renowned activist attorney Deji Adeyanju has voiced serious concerns regarding the safety of Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, following allegations of threats against his life.

Adeyanju condemned any efforts to harm or intimidate Obi for his candid critiques of the current government under President Bola Tinubu.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Adeyanju remarked, “I denounce the threats against HE Peter Obi’s life for being a prominent voice of dissent in Nigeria. No harm or persecution should befall him.”

He stressed that critiquing and holding the government accountable is not a crime but a profound act of patriotism that deserves praise.

Adeyanju also expressed alarm over what he described as Nigeria’s descent into a “full-blown dictatorship,” cautioning against the potential emergence of a one-party system.

Obi recently claimed that his life was in jeopardy following his critical remarks about the Tinubu administration. His fears were heightened after Felix Morka, the National Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), accused him of repeatedly “crossing the line” and suggested that he may face repercussions.

In response, Obi expressed his disappointment regarding the growing suppression of free speech in the country, warning that Nigeria is edging toward authoritarian rule. He reaffirmed his dedication to speaking out truthfully, despite the rising hostility toward opposing viewpoints.
