As the governorship election in Edo State approaches this Saturday, activist attorney Deji Adeyanju has issued a warning regarding potential federal involvement in the electoral process.

Adeyanju cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against any attempts to misuse presidential authority to sway the election results.

In a signed statement, he urged Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to prioritize the will of the electorate.

“With the governorship election set for September 21, I implore the Independent National Electoral Commission to focus on the interests of the citizens and ensure that the election is conducted in a transparent, fair, and credible manner,” Adeyanju stated.

He also called on the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to uphold their loyalty to the populace instead of catering to political agendas.

“Maintaining neutrality and professionalism is essential for fostering a peaceful electoral atmosphere,” he emphasized.

Moreover, he condemned the alleged schemes by the ruling APC to leverage presidential powers to manipulate the electoral outcome.

“Such behaviors threaten the integrity of our democracy and distort the genuine desires of the Edo people. The citizens of Edo State should have the freedom to select their leaders without any external interference or deceit,” he asserted.
