The faction of Afenifere led by Pa Adebanjo has voiced serious concerns regarding what they perceive as the authoritarian practices of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a recent interview, Justice Faloye, the National Publicity Secretary, criticized the government’s management of the economy and its suppression of citizens protesting against deteriorating economic conditions.
Faloye cautioned, “If we are not vigilant, we risk reverting to the oppressive era of Abacha. The real treason lies in the actions of this administration, not in the protests of the people.”
Afenifere accused Tinubu’s government of undermining the economic well-being of Nigerians under the pretense of implementing reforms, which they claim has worsened poverty and neglected the suffering of the populace.
Furthermore, Faloye called for the immediate release of protesters who have been detained on charges of treason, suggesting instead that they should be charged with willful destruction of property.
This criticism underscores escalating worries about the administration’s governance style and economic strategies, raising alarms about potential human rights infringements.
As of now, the Presidency has not issued a response to Afenifere’s serious allegations.
