The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, urging it to refrain from deploying security forces and financial resources aimed at quelling an impending hunger strike set to commence on August 1, 2024.
Dr. Raph Nwosu, the party’s National Chairman, voiced his frustration regarding the government’s attempts to thwart the protest, questioning why President Tinubu seems apprehensive about the upcoming demonstration.
Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the inauguration of the State Campus and Youth Development Centre on Saturday, Nwosu remarked, “This morning, I tweeted my concerns: Why are you afraid of protests? You can’t tell hungry citizens not to strike while mobilizing security and financial resources to suppress their voices. Why not use that money to help people find food? Is this a democracy or a dictatorship?”
Nwosu emphasized the urgent need to halt the exploitation and degradation of the nation, revealing that his party is embarking on a campaign to push Nigeria towards progress. He highlighted the significant misallocation of funds in Akwa Ibom State over the past 24 years, stating that the amount wasted could have developed a city in the United States.
He further asserted, “The exploitation and degradation of this country must come to an end. Our mission is to ensure Nigeria advances. The billions spent in Akwa Ibom alone over the past two decades could have built a major city in America.”
Encouraging his party members to engage in an extensive membership campaign, Nwosu stressed the importance of the ADC establishing a strong presence throughout the nation.
“By 2027, we aim to occupy the Aso Rock villa and all state government houses, including Akwa Ibom, to provide Nigerians with superior leadership. This objective can only be achieved by expanding our membership and demonstrating our viable plans for the country,” he stated.
Mr. Dick Udom, the state chairman of the ADC, also expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure victory in the upcoming gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections in 2027. “The two dominant parties have failed the populace, and the people are eager for us to make a difference come 2027. We will not relent until we achieve this goal,” he declared.
Dr. Godwin Umontuen, a newly appointed member of the ADC’s Board of Trustees from Akwa Ibom State, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to advocating for good governance in Nigeria.
He stressed that the ADC is poised to lead significant changes in the governance landscape starting in May 2027.
