The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has on Thursday extended the transition committees of the 31 local governments in the state.

The previous tenure which was to elapse this June after being set up in December will have another six months to run to make way for elections to be conducted.

The adoption of the motion and subsequent sanction was done on the June 6 plenary as Chairman, committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs Mfon Idung, who’s also representing the good people of Etim-Ekpo/Ika State Constituency submitted the report.

A motion for the adoption of the committee’s report for further legislative action was moved by the member representing Okobo, Bassy Pius Bassey, while the member representing Uruan State Constituency, Dr Itorobong Etim, seconded it.

The House dissolved into a Committee of the Whole to consider the report, where members unanimously adopted the recommendations.
