Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has warned traditional rulers across the state against overreaching their jurisdiction, particularly in disputed areas.

He emphasised the need for rulers to operate within their designated domains and avoid expansionist tendencies.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Mr. Olayide Adelami, issued the warning during the presentation of the staff of office and coronation of Oba Adebayo Bashiru Takuro, Ogundairo I, Olusan of Ayesan in Odigbo Local Government Area. He also cautioned against appointing minor chiefs outside the rulers’ territories.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the traditional institution as a vehicle for promoting peace, harmony, and unity. He highlighted the government’s recognition of traditional rulers as custodians of culture and urged them to prioritize peace over personal interests, strengthening the cohesion of their domains.

He further noted the government’s commitment to enhancing the Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, by investing in equipment and human resources. The state has also been supporting other security agencies to ensure safety across Ondo.

In his remarks, Oba Takuro expressed gratitude to the state government for recognizing the Olusan stool, noting that it took over six decades for the community to achieve this recognition. He also called on the government to restore the historic port in Ayesan, which was established by the British in 1846.

The monarch appealed for the construction of the Oniparaga/Ayesan Road to boost connectivity and economic growth, and for the channelization of the Ofara coastal line to unlock the potential of local commerce.

Oba Takuro vowed to protect and promote the cultural identity of Ayesan, promising to collaborate with the government to improve infrastructure and support economic development in the community.

State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Amidu Takuro, praised the government’s decision to approve the Olusan stool, calling it a testament to Governor Aiyedatiwa’s inclusive leadership.
