The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral commission (AKISIEC) has issued the official schedule for the 2024 local government elections in the state.
Pursuant to electoral act 2022, section 103 sub-section 1 and 3 pertaining to elections into area councils in FCT, the Akwa Ibom state independent electoral commission law, 2007, the amendment law 2004 and other extant laws regulating the conduct of local government elections in Akwa Ibom State, the commission has issued the schedule for elections into the councils of local governments.
The commission has stated in their memo signed by the chairman and chief electoral commissioner, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak that the election holds on Saturday October 26, 2024.
However, the conduct of parties primaries and observance of the same by the commission shall take effect between Monday, July 22, 2024 through Monday, August 26, 2024 across all the local governments.
On Monday, August 26, parties will be allowed to commence campaigns as the same will end on October 24, 2024.
However, in the case of any run-off or re-runs of need arises as the safe maybe, it shall therefore take place on Saturday, September the 2nd, 2024 .
