The Akwa Ibom State Police command detained a 35-year-old suspected ex-convict, Eddiong Anthony Matthew, who had been impersonating a soldier with the rank of a warrant officer.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, on Thursday in Uyo, the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday around 2 pm while wearing half-dressed military camouflage.

John reported that initial investigations unveiled that the suspect, a native of Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of the state, had been committing various crimes in the state while wearing military attire.

She added that authorities recovered one walkie-talkie, phones believed to be stolen from his victims, a brown coverall dress, and an RCC ID card from the suspect.

The statement released by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command highlighted the continued efforts to eliminate criminal activities in the state, resulting in the arrest of an ex-convict.

On June 5, 2024, around 14:00hrs, police operatives conducting crime prevention patrols apprehended Eddiong Anthony Matthew, a 35-year-old native of Ikot Ekong Village in Mkpat Enin LGA, wearing half-dressed military camouflage.

It was also reported by ThePaan that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect, identified as an ex-convict, has been engaging in a series of criminal activities in the state while posing as military personnel with the rank of a warrant officer.

Recovered items from the suspect included a walkie-talkie, phones believed to be stolen from his victims, a brown coverall dress, and an RCC ID Card.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, reiterated the command’s steadfast commitment to crime prevention in the state. Additionally, she stated that upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect would face charges in court
