Ambrose Alli University (AAU), located in Ekpoma, Edo State, has officially appointed Prof. Samuel Olowo as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution. This decision follows the recent disengagement of the previous acting vice-chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Adagbonyin, whose tenure concluded on August 28, 2024.

Prof. Olowo, who previously served as the Provost of the College of Medicine, steps into this role during a pivotal time for the university. His appointment was confirmed in a letter sent by Prof. Adagbonyin to the Senate of the university on August 29, 2024. In his correspondence, Prof. Adagbonyin announced that he would be stepping aside next week to formally hand over authority to Prof. Olowo.

Prof. Adagbonyin had been appointed as acting vice-chancellor on February 8, 2022, following the unexpected removal of Prof. Benson Osadolor. His recent removal is part of a broader transition strategy aimed at facilitating the appointment of a new substantive vice-chancellor.

A source affiliated with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at AAU, who requested anonymity, indicated that the change is part of an ongoing effort to reposition the institution for future challenges and improvements. Prof. Olowo’s tenure is expected to focus on advancing the university’s mission during this transitional phase.
