Flutterwave, a leading payments technology company in Africa, has announced a new partnership that allows Nigerian merchants to accept payments from American Express (AMEX) cardholders. This move is part of American Express’s ongoing expansion into Africa, which began with the launch of AMEX cards in Nigeria through Access Bank in 2023.

With this new service, Flutterwave merchants can tap into a broader customer base, attracting AMEX card users from Nigeria and beyond. This partnership will provide shoppers with more payment options, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Flutterwave CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, emphasized the importance of offering diverse payment methods to cater to different consumer preferences. He stated, “This is one of our initiatives to ensure that more people across the world can pay using Flutterwave in Africa.”

American Express is also committed to increasing payment options for businesses and consumers in Africa. Briana Wilsey, Vice President of Global Network Services EMEA at American Express, noted that this collaboration with Flutterwave will enable e-commerce merchants in Nigeria to reach AMEX cardholders globally.

In the future, Flutterwave plans to extend this service to merchants in other African countries, including Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, and Uganda, further enhancing its reach across the continent.

This partnership is expected to significantly impact the Nigerian e-commerce landscape, allowing merchants to grow their businesses while providing customers with the flexibility to use their preferred payment methods.
