The All Progressives Congress (APC) has charged Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara with defying court rulings related to the state’s House of Assembly. Chibike Ikenga, the Publicity Secretary for the APC in Rivers State, asserted that Governor Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget to the House led by Victor Oko-Jumbo and its subsequent approval contravened judicial decisions on the issue.

In an interview, Ikenga accused the governor of engaging in illegal actions. “As the spokesperson for the Rivers State All Progressives Congress, I must emphasize that this administration is steeped in illegality. The Rivers State government has developed a notorious reputation for disregarding court orders and violating the constitutional principles that govern our nation, which established the roles of the executive, legislature, and judiciary in the state,” he stated.

Ikenga warned that Fubara’s continued disregard for the law would foster unrest, hinder development, and exacerbate divisions within the state. “It is widely recognized that the actions of Governor Sim Fubara’s administration pose a threat to stability and will not promote unity in Rivers State,” he added.

Discussing the 2025 budget, Ikenga pointed out that the governor failed to comply with rulings from both a High Court and an Appeal Court that affirmed the legitimacy of the House led by Martins Amaewhule. “The governor has continually ignored judicial mandates directing the Rivers State government to present the budget solely to the House of Assembly recognized by the courts, led by Rt Hon. Martins Amaewhule. We believe that this pattern of defiance may extend even to Supreme Court decisions,” he concluded.
