The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has acknowledged that the Nigerian judiciary is grappling with numerous obstacles in fulfilling its responsibilities.

Speaking at the inaugural Inter-Party Advisory Council Roundtable focused on “The Role of the Judiciary in Nigeria’s Democratic Sustainability” in Abuja on Thursday, Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, emphasized the judiciary’s crucial influence in shaping the democratic framework of Nigeria.

He remarked that since the nation’s early independence, the judiciary has been vital in maintaining the rule of law, delivering justice, and protecting citizens’ rights.

“Nonetheless,” Ganduje added, “it’s essential to recognize that while striving to fulfill this significant role, the judiciary contends with several challenges, including insufficient funding, delays in delivering justice, and the need for greater judicial independence.”

Despite these hurdles, he expressed optimism about the potential for reforms that could enhance the judiciary’s effectiveness and its contribution to sustaining democracy.

“I firmly believe that a robust democracy relies on an independent judiciary. Thus, it is imperative for all stakeholders in the democratic framework to ensure that the judiciary operates free from external pressures and interference,” he asserted.
